ProTee VX Ceiling Mounting Guide

For Ceilings Higher Than 10 Feet

This guide explains how to mount a ProTee VX launch monitor when the ceiling height exceeds 10 feet. It reflects the same commercial-grade installation method used by SimCaddy’s professional AV technicians and is suitable for confident DIY installers.

Important Mounting Requirement

The ProTee VX launch monitor must always be mounted between 9 and 10 feet from the finished floor.

If your ceiling height exceeds 10 feet, the VX cannot be mounted directly to the ceiling. In these situations, a drop-down mounting solution using an extension column and adapter plates is required to achieve the correct height safely and accurately.

SimCaddy recommends commercial-grade extension columns and adapter plates using the industry-standard 1.5-inch NPT threaded interface.

Recommended Hardware

  • Commercial-grade ceiling extension column, fixed or adjustable length
  • Two ceiling adapter plates, one at each end of the column
  • Standard 1.5-inch NPT threaded interface components

All components shown in this guide are compatible with standard 1.5-inch NPT ceiling-mount systems.

Step-by-Step Installation

Step 1: Determine the Extension Column Length

Measure from the finished floor to the ceiling and calculate the required drop so the VX mounting position lands between 9 and 10 feet from the floor.

Example: A 12-foot ceiling requires a 2-foot fixed extension column to mount the VX at exactly 10 feet.

You will need:

  • One adapter plate at the ceiling
  • One adapter plate at the launch-monitor end

Step 2: Install the Ceiling Adapter Plate

Secure the first adapter plate directly to the ceiling using fasteners appropriate for your structure. Joists or blocking are required.

This plate serves as the structural anchor point for the extension column.

Step 3: Install and Secure the Extension Column

Thread the extension column into the 1.5-inch NPT opening on the ceiling adapter plate.

Once fully seated, tighten the hex locking screw on the side of the adapter plate to prevent rotation.

Step 4: Attach the Second Adapter Plate

Thread the second adapter plate onto the bottom end of the extension column.

Secure the column by tightening the locking screw on the side of the adapter plate.

Step 5: Modify the VX Mounting Plates

Important: Read this step carefully.

When using extension columns, the factory hole pattern on the ProTee VX mounting plate does not align with the adapter plate. This is expected and is not a defect.

To resolve this, new holes must be drilled into the VX mounting plate.

Procedure

  1. Place the VX mounting plate inside the adapter plate.
  2. Align both plates concentrically.
  3. Mark the hole locations.
  4. Drill new holes into the VX mounting plate only.
  5. Do not drill into the adapter plate.

Using the VX Protective Cover

If installing the VX Protective Cover, matching holes must also be drilled into the VX Protective Cover mounting plate.

The three plates assemble together as follows:

  • VX mounting plate, inner
  • VX Protective Cover mounting plate, outer
  • Adapter plate, top

They fit together like a sandwich and are secured using installer-supplied screws, washers, and nuts.

Important: Screws, washers, and nuts are not provided.

Step 6: Final Assembly

Once the plates are secured:

  • Attach the ProTee VX launch monitor using the built-in latch system.
  • Install the VX Protective Cover using the same latch mechanism.

The completed installation should be:

  • Mounted between 9 and 10 feet from the finished floor
  • Rigid and vibration-free
  • Fully protected and correctly aligned
